The Maltz Jupiter Theatre, which is celebrating its 5th
anniversary in January, will also have new management.
Murray J. Green, a broadcast executive, is the theater’s new
managing director, replacing Peter Croken, to oversee daily
operations of the theater, as well as its new Conservatory of
the Performing Arts.
“We’ve sold over 6,000 season subscriptions
already,” said spokeswoman Jennifer Sardone.
“A lot of our success is due to our going with
commercially successful plays. We find that
familiarity is important to our audiences.”
Among their offerings this season is the Doo
Wop series featuring music from the 1950s and
familiar groups such as The Platters and The
Temptations. In January, the theater will host a
sparkling gala to celebrate its fifth year as the
Jupiter Maltz Theatre.
The Maltz is also producing two of its own
shows, “The Boy Friend,’’ a spoof of 1920s comedies,
and “Smokey Joe’s Café,’’ the longest running
musical revue in the history of Broadway.
Under a cooperative arrangement, the shows will
also be staged in Vero Beach at the Riverside.
The Barn Theatre in Stuart, Martin County’s
oldest community playhouse, has a variety of
plays scheduled for the season, including the
zany farce, “The Amorous Ambassador,” and “I
Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,”
described as “Seinfeld set to music,” and presented
in collaboration with the local company,
StarStruck Peter Jones Productions.
The 28-year-old St. Lucie Community Theatre at Pineapple
Playhouse in St. Lucie County promises a season of comedy,
starting with the musical comedy “You’re a Good Man,
Charlie Brown,” followed by outrageous antics in “Opal’s
Million Dollar Duck.”

John Wilkes, who directed the Kravis Center in Palm Beach and the Van Wezel in
Sarasota, has arrived at the Sunrise Theatre to direct the 2007-2008 season.
