By the time of this interview in August, the walk was over,
but Steve was tight-lipped about the outcome, because it was
still playing out on TV.
Steve says there is no magic formula for fitness. It’s simply
a matter of eating less and being active, he says.
“In general, I advise people to eat four or five times a day,
and in general to limit meals to 300 to 400 calories and 150
calories for snacks,” he says. “I try to have a third of my
calories from fat, a third from carbs and a third from protein.
The carbs need to be vegetable type carbs. I also try to drink
a gallon of water a day for energy and metabolism.”
He advises people to get at least 45 minutes of exercise
three times a week. Even people who think they can’t possibly
squeeze in time for exercising can find ways to stay
active, he says.
“Instead of going to see a movie, go bowling. Take the
stairs at work instead of the elevator. Some of us have three
cars just to make sure we never have to walk anywhere. If
