IRMA’S GRILL
from 5.1 to 4.33, pay off our short term debt for an annual savings
of more than $500,000 and maintain our reserves at the
levels as required by our fiscal policy. The city’s financial position
is much more stable than when I came on board in 2004.
This is due to the diligent work of our staff and the commitment
of the commissioners.
Describe the city’s beautification efforts, especially
downtown.
There is a group of concerned citizen from Stuart
Mainstreet, Stuart in Bloom and the Downtown Business
Association who are working with the city to spruce up the
city. It is more of a tweaking of what we have than any major
project. The city will be competing in the America in Bloom
campaign in the spring so we hope to have everything done
by then.
In business, you represent the art of your husband.
Describe his work.
I describe Kevin’s work as Florida landscapes and tropical
escapes. Since he grew up in the area and sailed in the
Bahamas as a child, his paintings are of places that you just
want to be. You can feel the wind blowing through his palm
trees or the sun on your face as you canoe down an old Florida
river. They are like mini vacations. I know that sounds corny
but his paintings do allow you to escape your hectic day if just
for a few minutes.
Is the art market in Florida changing? How?
Like about any other market, the art market has felt the
slowing-down effects of the current economy. People in general
are not as “house rich” as we all thought we were at one
time so our spending habits are adjusting. This is being felt
across all industries and communities.
What are your hobbies or what do you do to relax?
The most relaxing time of my day is running in the morning
either over the Roosevelt Bridge or down along the riverwalk
through town with my dog, Tippy. Getting up early and
watching the sunrise over the water is a great way to start my
day. Besides this, I find great joy through my volunteer work
with the Environmental Studies Council, the DBA/DSA, the
Arts Council and other community organizations.
