Susan, divorced and formerly known as
Susan Shinaberry, decorated the home herself,
utilizing an eclectic style and her
knowledge of antiques. “I also used
Barbara Sharp, a Vero Beach artist, and Patricia
Labeye, a French artist, to do the fantasy paintings
on the walls and ceilings.”
Susan grew up in Pennsylvania and put herself
through college and graduate school. “I became
interested in antiques at an early age because my
parents’ good friends were in the business and I
would spend lots of time in their store. My mother
and grandmother were also collectors so I
ended up learning all about antiques, from
reupholstering furniture to refinishing floors.”
Susan started her own antique business in western
Pennsylvania in her early 20s. “A lot of the
furniture in my home I’ve had since then,” she
said, pointing to a Duncan Phyfe sofa and settee
in the living room that she refinished herself. “I
bought my first home when I was 21. It was an
