A TREASURE TO READ
Indian River magazine is a locally

Ave. in Fort Pierce, Fla., 34950. All

Lucie, Stuart/Martin and Indian River
County chambers of commerce.
hat a difference a year makes.
Last October, we were getting ready to publish our first issue of Indian
River. Now, a year later we begin our second year full of more ambitious plans.
As we look back on our journalism in Indian River in that inaugural year,
we feel a sense of accomplishment. Among just a few of our feats in those early
issues, we: revealed Amelia Earhart’s secret flight to Fort Pierce; explored the wonderful
world of Waldo Sexton; traced the roots of one of the Treasure Coast’s first families; and,
with this issue, have shed some light on the events that dark night 83 years ago Nov. 1 on
the Sebastian Bridge.
Through our photography, we hope we’ve accomplished our mission of reflecting the
beauty of the land in which you live.
On the corporate side, in addition to publishing five issues of Indian River, we’ve also
launched Port St. Lucie magazine and have helped the Lyric Theatre in Stuart publish their
inaugural issue of The Lyric Magazine. And next month, we will publish a similar first-ofits
kind publication, The Sunrise, a magazine that will serve as the playbill for the Sunrise
Theatre in Fort Pierce.
While we have begun these endeavors in challenging economic times, we believe they
will be important assets in our communities in the longterm. We remain a humble operation,
with a Spartan office and a knack for finding creative ways to do things.
For example, with no large storage facility for our magazine shipments or fleet of trucks
to deliver them, we have our printer drop them off at the East Coast Lumber plant in Fort
Pierce. From there, our staff members arrive in their family vehicles to begin distributing
them throughout the Treasure Coast.
Each new issue brings a sense of accomplishment, and we greatly anticipate the dropoff
in the lumber yard. The long days ahead distributing the magazines may be weary ones,
but we emerge from them knowing a little more about the communities and the people
we serve.
