TREASURE COAST MEDICAL REPORT
you’re not looking to be a Victoria’s Secret model, you don’t
have to work out two hours a day. But I think we’re all better
moms, better dads, better employees, and better business
owners if we spend an hour a day on ourselves.”
Steve and Bonnie run three and a half to four miles a day
before breakfast, which consists of oatmeal or an egg white
omelet. He also does an hour of weight training every morning.

They don’t eat out much, preferring instead healthy
packed lunches at work and dinners at home.
The couple met in Tallahassee and operated a health club
in Valdosta, Ga., before moving to Vero Beach four years ago.
He says they completely revamped Longevity, a fitness center
for women only.
“I have a very real approach to fitness,” Steve says. “It has
to do with developing relationships with people and trying
to get them to think they can achieve the goals they have set.
A lot of people fail and fail and fail. I think we are all prone
to create a comfortable environment around ourselves, sometimes
overeating and being sedentary, and we leave eating
well and being active out of the equation.”
Steve and Bonnie’s lifestyle must be contagious. Bonnie’s
mother lost 85 pounds. Also, her 200-pound sister came for a
visit and stayed for a year, dropping 55 pounds during that
time. “She totally turned into a different girl,” Steve says.
Fitness Tips from Steve and Bonnie
• Don’t buy any snack or food you can’t trust yourself
around. (Chips, crackers, and sweets are our weaknesses).
• Make yourself get out of the house
even on those lazy, rainy days.
• Sodas are a treat, not a beverage.
Save diet sodas for a dinner out on the weekend.
• Main meals should be no larger in size and calories
than an average Lean Cuisine.
• It’s all about calories. To lose weight, you have to
take in fewer calories than you burn.
• Keep meals simple. The fewer ingredients and
condiments, the fewer calories.
• Drink a glass of water every time you find yourself
staring into the fridge or pantry.
• Stay busy. Limit time in front of the TV.
Less TV means less snacking.
• The more you exercise, the faster the results.
