Pennsylvania.
A painting over the fireplace mantel is an
Ettore Simonette, a famous artist in the late
1800s. “I borrowed money from my mother to
buy this painting and then she ended up giving
it to me for Christmas when I was 21,”
said Susan. The watercolor painting is a palace
scene of ladies selling Oriental rugs. There are
other Chinese influences throughout the house
from authentic kimonos hung on the walls to
Chinese screens and rugs.
The dining room features turn-of-the-century
furniture and walls painted in layers that
give the effect of iridescent art glass. “Patricia
Labeye painted this room. Depending on how
the light hits, the walls look purple, blue or
lavender. The trim on the ceiling is a copy of
an old Natchez, Miss., plantation home
