ceiling.”
Patricia also did the fantasy
painting in the bathroom off
the kitchen. “It’s fun,” Susan
said. “Better than wallpaper.
The utility room is even fun.
Barbara Sharp painted this a
1950s chartreuse. She did the
ceiling as well as a portrait of
my cat, Smoky.” Smoky is
Susan’s beautiful blue Persian.
The other fun rooms in the
house are the master bathroom
and the octagonal room off the
master bedroom. “Patricia
painted the ceiling over the
bathtub to look like an abandoned
stone ruin. It features
the sky with plants coming
through the cracks, like a tented
area. Most of the inspiration
for the painted designs
throughout the house came
from a book called The Painted
House by artist Graham Rust.
It’s called trompe l’oeil design
which is a type of painting
made to fool the eye, like 3-D.”
