Military Academy at West Point;

How I became a doctor: “After an injury playing football
as a freshman at West Point, I underwent orthopaedic surgery
and found it fascinating. Over the next three years, this
interest led me to add enough classes to get my medical
school prerequisites. After being commissioned a second
lieutenant in the combat engineers, I served for two years
and decided to apply to medical school and continue my
service as a physician. After medical school, I was commissioned
as an Army Medical Corps officer.”
What most people do not know about me: “I am the 13th of
14 children.”
What inspires me: “Love for my family, service to my country,
and caring for the sick and injured.”
Proudest achievements: “Marrying my wife and starting
our family; graduating from West Point; my 15 years of service
in the Army.”

Stanton’s family sent him this poster-sized photo of them to decorate
his room in Iraq. One of Stanton’s brothers also sent him a
banner from Stanton’s alma mater, West Point.
