Sarasota and the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, has
called in favors accrued over the years to quickly book a full
season of shows since taking over management of the theater
from David Jenkins in
the summer.
A few of the theater’s highlights include the Four Tops,
Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Dave Brubeck and the Magic of
Ireland. He says his goal is to create a friendly, welcoming
atmosphere at the Sunrise. “We’ll have programs for families,
music, dance, comedies, all kinds of things,” Wilkes
said. “And on Saturday mornings, we’ll have shows
for children.”
Wilkes Loesser Inc. is running both the Sunrise and
Stuart’s popular Lyric Theatre. John Loesser, director of the
Lyric, said this season will bring “some great things we’ve
never done before, and some old favorites. We had our most
successful season last year, and it is looking like this season
we’ll top it.”
So far, the Lyric has already doubled advance sales of tickets
over what it sold last year. “It will be a very full season,”
he said. Among the acts new to the Lyric will be the Village
People and Art Garfunkel. Familiar faces returning to the
Lyric include comedian Jackie Mason, the legendary
Kingston Trio, and 3 Redneck Tenors (seen recently on
