The atmosphere on a steamy
August evening was about
to chill out as Brandy’s on
the Pointe in Vero Beach opened its doors to the members of Tasters Guild No. 52, one of the
40 active chapters throughout the country dedicated to the “education, appreciation and
responsible use of wine and food.’’
“We’ve been getting together for 20 years every month, except December – too busy,” said
Keith Andersen, head of the chapter and owner of the Boozgeois Saloon and Roy’s Liquors &
Fine Wines in Fort Pierce. “In the beginning it was hard to find a different restaurant each
month to host our meetings. Now they call me and ask if they can host our event. It’s great for
everyone. We get to try out a new restaurant, socialize, have a great dinner and fabulous
wine, and the restaurant gets more business with exposure from our members.”
The 30 or so people attending the August gathering were treated to six different wines from
St. Supery winemakers in Napa Valley and a four-course meal prepared by Brandy’s cooks.
“There are seven chapters of the Tasters Guild in Florida,” said Andersen. “Our chapter draws
its members mainly from the Treasure Coast. All ages and all walks of life attend the dinners
and wine tasting with one thing in common – we like wine. You don’t have to be a wine connoisseur
to become a member but you certainly gain a tremendous amount of knowledge
