Treasure Coast Medical Report
“My son Anand is part of my journey,” she says. “When
he was a 10th-grader at St. Edward’s he developed bleeding
ulcerative colitis. We were told he might need a colostomy
and have to wear a bag. So I began researching and discovered
inflammation and Dr. Barry Sears and The Zone Diet.
My son’s problems were all diet-related.”
Dr. Deepti put her son on a diet of lean protein and plenty
of veggies. Anand also began taking high doses of Omega 3
fatty acids. He lost 50 pounds and is now disease free.
“Obesity leads to inflammation, the cause of all diseases,”
says Dr. Deepti. “Sixty percent of all cancers happen to overweight
people because fat cells become toxic to themselves.
This isn’t new-age medicine. Today, this is all well-researched
and widely accepted.”
Chronic inflammation is painless, undetectable and the
underlying cause of many life-threatening illnesses. It never
goes away.
The answer, says Dr. Deepti, is to adopt an anti-inflammatory
diet. “It’s a clinically proven, easy way to reduce cellular
inflammation,” she says.
Dr. Deepti recommends a diet that’s two-thirds vegetables
and one-third protein. Her patients also take fish oil (Omega
3) capsules to lower inflammation and decrease the chances of
disease. Once they’ve lost some weight, they begin to exercise.
Jean Moseley of Vero Beach consulted Dr. Deepti after retiring
from Vero Beach High School, where she taught math for
nine years.
“I wanted a baseline of information on myself,” says Moseley.
“I made the dietary changes Dr. Deepti suggested and
began taking the supplements. My cholesterol dropped over
50 points in less than three months.”
Name: Dr. Deepti Sadhwani,
board-certified internist and
bariatric physician
Age: 50
Education: University of Nagpur,
Nagpur, India; University
of Chicago
Hobbies: To relax, Dr. Deepti
watches animals and their
behaviors. “I have a dog and I
love playing and talking with
him. I also love reading spiritual books about who
we are and what life is all about.”
Something not everyone knows about me: “I love going
for very long walks on nature trails.”
Moseley lost 13 pounds and says a friend lost 70 pounds in
a year’s time under Dr. Deepti’s care.
There’s a reason why 80 percent of Dr. Deepti’s patients
are women.
“I’m a woman, age 50, and a hormone specialist,” says Dr.
Deepti, “so I understand menopause. But I see men too and
my husband and I share practices.”
Still, Dr. Deepti is especially passionate about working with
women and is an inspiring public speaker.
“I want to encourage women to get an education, to train
themselves, be disciplined and show up. When you practice
all these disciplines, nothing distracts you,” she says.
“It must be a group effort,” Dr. Deepti says. “I ask my patients
to spread the word. It’s so exciting that we can reverse so many
illnesses. We have a moral obligation to spread the word.”
