could’ve ever asked for!”
When Anderson arrived, the ‘O’ staff were just finishing
up the August issue. Her duties included returning a lot
of merchandise before beginning preparations for the next
photo shoots.
“We had to organize everything in their trunks for each
shoot for October’s issue and I was actually sent to the set for
Oprah’s cover.”
Anderson did not get to see Oprah, but she was fascinated
upon seeing the multitude of items on hand and the clothes
that might be used in the final cut.
“I can’t wait to see the issue to see some of the items I was
responsible for handling,” she said.
Anderson says the atmosphere at the office was incredible.
Many interns return with horror stories of being treated as
abused flunkies, but not the ones at Winfrey’s office.
“All of the staff treated us as co-workers from the very
beginning,” she said.
The interns did not work directly for Assistant Marketing
Editor Kristina Lepore or Creative Director Adam Glassman,
but they were occasionally able to observe as they worked.
Watching these fashion icons was a thrill to the interns.
They were especially pleased when Glassman surprised them
one day with a large tray of cupcakes.
“It was so surreal,” she said.
Anderson began as a “fashion intern,” but her solid work
was rewarded when she added “accessories intern” to her
resume and worked under two separate editors.
“It was just interesting being in the middle of a millionplus
publication, seeing the way a magazine functions and to
watch the creative process,” she said.
What’s next for Anderson after graduation in 2015?
“I have left a lot of doors open,” she said. “The publishing
world changes so rapidly, so it will depend.”
First day in New
York City, Anderson
arrives at Hearst
Tower by taxi.
