Recently married, Trew says everything is going quite well
in his life, which is evident when you see him play. Even his
bandmates are inspired by him. “His energy is contagious
and he will make sure you feel it. Watch Uproot Hootenanny
for a few minutes and you know what I mean,” said Bolen.
“He isn’t done until everyone leaves with a smile. It’s like
he’s in a competition to outdo himself every show, and somehow
he succeeds every time.”
Now a resident of Deerfield Beach, Trew wishes he could
spend more time in Fort Pierce, where he enjoys how everyone
knows each other. But right now, that’s not possible. “I
definitely couldn’t be doing what I’m doing because there’s
not enough live music in Fort Pierce like there is further
south,” says Trew.
But he’s not going to complain. He and his fellow bandmates
just released their third CD and he loves what he does.
“Where else can you drink on the job?” he asked with a
wry smile.

BRIAN TREW
Age: 27
Family: Married to Stephanie, a first-grade teacher
at Somerset Charter Academy in Boca Raton
Hobbies: “I love the water. I grew up surfing at Fort
Pierce Jetty, and I surf quite a bit. I’m also a big
rugby fan. I played for 13 years and then realized
rugby might not be the smartest sport for a fiddle
player, but I still follow it religiously.”
What people don’t know about me: “I love corny,
hokey country music.”
What/Who in my life inspires me: “My wife
Stephanie is an inspiration for supporting me and
putting up with me and my schedule. Musically
Sam Bush is someone I love to listen to. I think my
biggest influence growing up was my Uncle Billy,
watching and listening to him play guitar every
week really had an impact on me. After watching
one of his shows I would just go to my room and
practice to show him a tune or song I learned for the
next time I saw him. I still do that to this day. Every
year for Thanksgiving we go to his 10-acre property
in west Fort Pierce. There are about 40 people who
come out and we all camp out and sing songs and
play tunes by a bonfire. I’m very lucky to have such
a great and supportive musical family.”
One of Brian Trew’s favorite places to play with “the lads” (and the occasional
female musical guest) is at Waldo’s in Vero Beach.
