An annual parade kicks off the holidays in each town. Santa never seems to
disappoint the crowd.
Boat parades, always a novelty to snowbirds who make
their way to Florida in December, are slated for Dec. 3 in
Indian River County, Dec. 4 in Martin County and Dec. 11 in
St. Lucie County. The Indian River County parade will start
at 6:30 p.m., and the St. Lucie and Martin county parades will
begin at 6 p.m.
Beautifully decorated boats of all kinds will light up the
night in a parade to remember for a long time. The family
event is put on each year by the Marine Industries Association
of the Treasure Coast.
Michele Miller, spokeswoman for the association, said
the boat parade in Martin County will start at Stuart City
Hall by Flagler Park in downtown Stuart, where people can
make an afternoon or evening of it and enjoy the start of the
holiday season.
Near the other end of the route, there will be a family festival
in Sandsprit Park starting at 5 p.m.
Stuart Main Street hosts the annual Christmas parade Dec.
3, for the first time this year with the help of the Soroptimists,
who started it 50 years ago. As in the past, the parade starts at
Stuart Middle School and ends at Smithfield Plaza. Toys for
Tots can be dropped off at downtown stores on the same day.
The following day, Saturday, Dec. 4, the Downtown Business
Association will judge a store window decoration contest,
and the annual lighting of the Christmas tree will take
place on the green in front of Duffy’s on Osceola Street.
The Lyric Theatre in Stuart will offer several holiday
shows, including “The Nutcracker,” in December. Go to
