Veterans Memorial Park in Fort Pierce, popular for events such as the Sandy
Shoes Festival and long walks along its scenic waterfront, was the scene of
a variety of open-air concerts for many years. Last year Sandy Shoes offered
music by popular bands all day and into the evening.

The Lyric has a hearty mix of performances and concerts
coming up this year, including Frank Sinatra Jr., Flamenco
Express, the popular Capitol Steps, The Spencers-Theatre of
Illusion, and the Dogs Gone Wild Tour.
In Fort Pierce, Main Street manager Doris Tillman has an
optimistic outlook. Based on rising attendance, the organization

may expand its March Sandy Shoes festival from a single
day to two days this year. The organization, which offers the
popular Friday Fest celebration once a month, plans to create
a special St. Patrick’s Day celebration this year. “Even with
the economy, people are coming out more and attendance is
up,” she said. “We had 400 people sign up for the Halloween
Ghost Walk this year and we were wondering how we were
going to handle it.”
Whole families are attending events as families are reconnecting
and doing things together, she said. “I am really
optimistic about how this season will turn out because people
are saying it’s time to get out and have some fun.”
