PERFORMING ARTS
48
SEASON OF THE ARTS
Word spread and this year we have
32 couples in the Patron Producers,
which made three large shows possible
this year.”
At the Sunrise in Fort Pierce, Russian
dancers will be back three times
in the upcoming season, executive
director John Wilkes said. The 1,200-
seat Sunrise has been successful at
scheduling many acts new to the
city this year — for example, Howie
Mandel, the host of “Let’s Make a
Deal” and a judge on a talent competition
this summer.
“We’re trying to nurture a market
coming to the theater from throughout
the Treasure Coast and beyond,”
Wilkes said, “so we’re offering very
diverse shows from Willie Nelson to
Broadway.”
The Sunrise is also introducing
children to the performing arts
with six shows this year, including
“Winnie-the-Pooh,” which will be
both spoken and signed for children
with hearing difficulties.
The theater’s Foundation is stepping
up to help pay for transportation
because the school district is
struggling with financial problems.
