A SEASON OF
CELEBRATION
BY SUSAN BURGESS
Seen any snow on the Treasure Coast lately? Probably
not, but you can see it on Dec. 5, when Main
Street Fort Pierce hosts the annual Sights and
Sounds on Second Street.
The popular holiday event featuring a parade,
Santa and family activities hasn’t offered snow in recent
years, but TD Bank donated money for the downtown Christmas
tree and is paying for the snow as well.
The parade will take a new route this year. It will begin at
Tickle Tummy Hill in historic downtown Fort Pierce, head

down Second Street to Orange Avenue, go east on Orange
and then turn on Indian River Drive, and head toward the
marina. It will end at the Fort Pierce Community Center (now
called Riverwalk). “The parade won’t go down Avenue A this
year,” said Pam Gillette, a spokeswoman for Main Street of
Fort Pierce.
The Sights and Sounds Festival will begin at 1 p.m. at Marina
Square. The parade, which will feature Santa, will start at
4:30 p.m. Afterward, the city Christmas tree lighting will take
place at the Avenue A roundabout and the holiday lights in
the park will begin. The Fort Pierce event is just one of many
celebrating the holidays on the Treasure Coast.

A Christmas tree is the centerpiece of the holiday celebrations in historic downtown Fort Pierce. Last year the roundabout was planted with bright red
poinsettias while the tree featured large colored Christmas balls and dozens of red bows.
