works in Miami. He began his art education at the Universidad
de los Andes in Bogota and continued his studies
in New York, Cuba, Mexico, Russia and England. He
eventually settled in Miami. Originally a painter, in 1996
Uribe began collecting everyday objects such as flip-flops,
plastic forks, books, chopsticks, and colored pencils, at
local flea markets and street fairs. He takes these ordinary
objects and reworks them as abstract installations of
pattern, color, and form. This transformation replaces the
object’s original function and purpose with a new identity
and significance. Metamorphosis features eight works
from his Abstract-O series.
WILLIAM WEGMAN: Fay
Continues through Jan. 9, 2011
William Wegman is internationally renowned for his
photographs of Weimaraners. This particular wonderful
and witty exhibition explores the collaboration between
William Wegman (b. 1943) and his celebrated Weimaraner
Fay (1984-1995). The bond between the artist and his muse
is undeniable. Fay’s Garboesque beauty is showcased
through a range of captured expressions and emotions —
each of which is heightened by her pose or accompanying
props. The exhibition includes black-and-white photographs,
large-format Polaroids, and chromogenic (color)
prints from the artist’s collection. In addition to 56 still
photographs, selections from Wegman’s videos featuring
Fay will also be on view, including Farmer McFay, ABC,
The Hardly Boys, Goldilocks, and Alphabet Soup. The
exhibition was made possible through a collaboration with
the William Wegman Studio, New York.
