they will never do again. “I think we got divorced and remarried
She signed up for her first Ironman in 2008 and did her second
in 2011. Both times she flew through the swimming and
cycling only to find herself struggling during the marathon.
Her second race was the hardest. After being ill for weeks
she finally felt well enough to participate, but her symptoms
caught up with her halfway through.
Her husband saw her struggling and joined her from the
sidelines, walking and jogging the last 13 miles with her,
feeding her chicken broth and pretzels. She laughed as she
remembered Andres picking up cold weather gear other runners
had discarded to insulate them from the chilly air. “My
husband is amazing,” Tovar said.
That same year she also cycled from Oceanside, Calif., to
Annapolis, Md., in the Race Across America, a true test of
speed, endurance, strength and camaraderie.
“It’s an amazing way to see the United States, but it goes
fast,” Tovar said.
Her team of four rode in shifts, nonstop for 24 hours over
seven days, resting in an RV when it was its teammates’
turn to ride.
Tovar rode through Monument Valley at sunrise, felt the
heat of Death Valley and zipped down snowy passes in the
Rockies at midnight.
“It was so breathtaking,” she said.
Why does she do it? “Because I can. If I could do it, why
wouldn’t I?” Tovar asked.
She said she comes across too many people with lofty goals
who think they’re not capable of something so monumental,
which is why she’s taking a break from her own training to
focus on helping others achieve their dreams.
She started InnoFit a year ago and began offering outdoor
classes at the park in Tradition, where she guides people
through high-intensity training exercises much like the ones
she enjoys at Crossfit.
She also partnered with a friend, Cale Simmons, to start up

like marathons or triathlons.
“There are so many ordinary people who want to accomplish
something but don’t know how to do it,” said Tovar.
“This is something I’m passionate about. I want to help
people.”E
