Name: Jon Schellenger
Age: 43
Occupation: Pilot for NetJets
and director of photography for
Jungle TV
Family: Wife, Megg; daughter,
Jessica, 11; son, Connor, 7
Background: Aviation management
degree from Virginia
Commonwealth University.
What inspires me: “It’s definitely aviation, and it’s definitely
filmmaking. My wife and kids definitely inspire me, too.”
Something most people don’t know about me: “I take risks.
The Billy Joel song that says ‘I go to extremes’…That’s
definitely me.”
The RED One camera
is Schellenger’s favorite
piece of equipment.
FORT
PIERCE
It was also the first film on which he used the RED One
camera, an enviable piece of equipment in the industry.
However the most touching moment was when he saw
USS Seaviper on the shelves at Walmart for the very first time.
“It’s too cool,” Schellenger said.
The second big film he worked on, Hollow Creek, about
kidnappers deep in the woods of New York, was also shot
partially in Port St Lucie. It is on schedule to be distributed in
a few months.
That film features local celebrity Burt Reynolds in a minor
role. Schellenger was honored to work with the film legend,
attentively placing lights around him, careful to get the
perfect shot.
“It was a moment that was just kind of surreal,”
Schellenger said. “It makes you wonder what’s next.”
Hollow Creek will be featured at the Sundance and Berlin
film festivals, but Schellenger already has his sights set on a
couple of other films for this spring and summer as he focuses
on constantly improving his skills. In the meantime, he’s
leading his daughter down the path of filmmaking, teaching
her about editing and Photoshop.
Meanwhile, engaging his son in light-saber duels in the
hallways, reliving another of his favorite movies from childhood,
as he blazes his way in the filmmaking industry.E
