PORT ST. LUCIE PEOPLE
Name: Dr. Bernard Kurecki
Age: 54
Occupation: Family physician at
Heart and Family Health Institute
in Port St. Lucie
Family: Wife, Samantha; Son,
Travis, 5; daughter, McKenna, 4
Background: Grew up in Venice,
Fla. Attended the University of
Florida and University of South Florida College of Medicine.
Began practicing in Port St. Lucie in 1987.
What inspires me: “I don’t want to sound corny, but living
life to its fullest. Life is finite and I want to experience as
much of it as I can.”
Something most people don’t know about me: “A lot of
people probably don’t know that I have a deep faith.”
Kurecki’s favorite hunting trophy is this 16-foot crocodile he shot in Africa.
He estimates it was 80 years old.
kicked out of their prides and will last just a year or two more
before they are unable to hunt for themselves and succumb to
the harsh realities of the African food chain.
He pays his dues and registrations, ensuring that landowners
and park services can continue policing their lands and
maintaining the health of the ecosystem.
Now that he has children, he hopes to pass his passion on
to them. He’s already introducing his young son to hunting,
taking him out to hunt in Martin County, watching him deck
himself out in camouflage clothing and examine the game his
dad shoots.
Kurecki admits he and his wife did it a little backward,
having children so late in life, but says they had a blast trotting
FORT
the globe and amassing trophies for 15 years. He hopes
they’ll still be doing it when their children are grown.
He looks forward to taking them to Africa, but in the
meantime he’s turning his attention to local game in hopes of
adding an elusive wild Florida hog to his mounted collection.
But first he’ll have to find a place for it on his wall. Next to
the eland, the baboon or the klipspringer, perhaps?E
