Outfielder and free agent Curtis
Granderson, 32, was signed away from
the crosstown Yankees in a $60 million
four-year deal. Granderson hit 41 home
runs for the Yankees in 2011 and 43 in
2012. He appeared at the plate only 245
times in 2013 due to injuries from being
hit by pitches.
Outfielder and free agent Chris
Young, 28, was signed to a one-year
$7.25 million contract. He began his
career with the San Diego Padres and
played with two other teams before
coming to the Mets. Young was selected
to the National League All-Star
Team in 2010, when he had his best
year with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The team also signed minor league
contracts with seven other players who
could be called up.
At year’s end there had been no
more discussions of bringing another
team to Tradition Field. County
