The Col. R. Otto Probst Library has complete collections
of just about every golf magazine ever published,
with shelves and shelves of books devoted to golf humor,
instruction, biographies and club histories.
Retired PGA professional Tony Dulio has written a book
on the U.S. Open and is working on a book on the Masters.
“It (Probst library) has the books I need,” he said as he
pulled information from several books and typed it into his
laptop. “It’s a great place to pick out a book and sit down
and read.” Books and magazines are not allowed out of the
library, but museum staff can help with making copies.
Volunteers work shifts as guides at the museum and are
more than helpful as they give tours to individuals and
groups, including students. “This is a good outlet for me,”
said Nick Pepe, a Port St. Lucie retiree who has volunteered
at the museum since the first day. “Every day I come in I
find something new. You get to meet people from all over
the country and Europe. I have had a lot of interesting
conversations. I look through books and pick up all kinds
of information.”
“The history, the culture, being able to pull out a magazine
from 1942 is fantastic,” said Bert Hogg, formerly of
Scotland and now a snowbird from PGA Village. “They
change the format and that is what adds to it.”
Visitors can ask to see more than 40 videos of the histories
of the PGA and Ryder Club tournaments, speaker
series, tournament highlights and past president profiles.
The museum will soon offer a program where people can
use their phones to enjoy an audio tour as they browse
through the history of golf.E

Col. R. Otto Probst Library as he researches a book. The library has one of the
world’s most extensive collections of books and magazines devoted to golf
and its history.
