What inspires me: “Gratification of what you create. You create
a dream and make it tangible.”
Something most people don’t know about me: “I used
to paint pictures. I’ve always been pretty artistic. At 13, I
thought I was going to be a rock star and recording artist.”

Jewett, who comes from a long line of carpenters, customizes each bow to
customer’s specifications.
who was a pianist and tinkered in painting and knitting.
“I was always into archery,” he notes. “After I got several
bows down, people wanted to buy them.”
His focus soon turned to the laminating, designing and
molding of the weapon. He builds a variety of bow types,
mainly the American native bow.
“I pretty much have been working on that bow forever.
It’s a high-performance hybrid, traditional bow with reflexdeflex,
a little backwards and forwards. Very powerful.”
He also makes two-piece bows, which can be pulled in half
after removing the string.
Riser options are extremely strong and heavy, providing
high performance and shoot ability from the weight and mass.
He customizes bows to each client’s satisfaction. A standard
bow is 28 inches long, but users differ in their choice
and approach.
Jewett creates bows for competition and tournaments,
but more than half his customers are hunters as well. Some
customers ask for specific designs. Retail outlets sometimes
order several bows from him.
Jewett makes a point of never going halfway or relying on
cheap methods, because his exclusive bows have become an
art. “There are certain standards I follow as far as quality,” he
says. “I don’t cut any corners.”
Prices for his custom bows range from $850 to $1,275, depending
on the desired options. His website is bushmenbows.com.
