Send your kid to camp
T he Missoula Children’s Theatre, the nation’s largest touring
children’s theater, returns to the Sunrise Theatre in Fort Pierce
for the annual summer camp program. The camp, held in
sponsorship with the Sunrise Theatre Foundation, hosts four
separate weeklong children’s summer programs. Each camp session
culminates in a public performance, starring local children, complete
with professional designed scenery and costumes. The camp day
begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. This year’s programs are King
Arthur’s Quest (June 9-13), Hansel and Gretel (July 7-11), Aladdin (July
14-18) and Treasure Island (Aug. 11-15). Cost is just $100 per child and
the camp is open to children 6-18. No advance preparation is necessary.
Besides actors, assistant directors are also cast to assist with
technical aspects of the production. Camp is limited to 64 children

Visit the gardens
T ake a break from the summer heat and visit
Heathcote Botanical Gardens in Fort Pierce,
home of the largest public tropical bonsai
collection in the United States. Visit themed
garden rooms, including a palm and cyad walk, herb
garden, reflection garden, perennials, ferns, gingers,
bromeliads and native Florida plants. See a traditional
Seminole Indian chickee and a replica pioneer house
built using traditional tools and materials. A visit to
Heathcote Gardens will give you a comprehensive
view of both native Florida flora as well as exotic flora
from around the world.
