REMODELING WORK
When Allie and Sam decided to completely remodel the
house in 1997, they included what they now call a bunting
porch. “It’s basically a screened porch on the west side of
the house for watching birds and taking pictures,” Sam said.
To avoid spooking the birds, he set up folding screens with
viewing holes cut in them at eye level.
The remodeling was just short of a teardown, with nothing
left standing except the exterior studs, roof and slab. “The
interior, including the plumbing and electric, all went,” Sam
said. They hired Vero Beach architect Peter Moor to design
their dream home. “We told him what we were looking for,
they heard what we said and the very first floor plan they
presented was exactly what we wanted.”
Their requests were for more room, cross ventilation and
lots of natural light. The old house had a front door on the
west side, with a sidewalk from the parking area, but it was
never used. Everyone who came to call entered through the
laundry room, walking between the washer and dryer to get
