be her thing. Besides, she was learning that she’d rather teach
the sport than play it.
So in 1992, she opened the Nancy Quarcelino School of Golf
in Spring Hill, Tenn., and began sharing her expertise with
others. She teaches beginners to professionals, using a holistic
approach that involves brain and fitness training. She loves
getting to know her students and their individual skill sets.
Three years ago PGA of America took notice of her status
as one of Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers and invited her to
join Port St. Lucie’s PGA Village as a golf professional.
“It was an incredible honor to come down here and teach,”
Quarcelino said. “I love it.”
So for five months of the year, over the winter when very
few people are interested in playing golf in Tennessee, she
teaches the sport she loves in Port St. Lucie.
“I enjoy working with people all the time. If I were in Tennessee
I’d be taking five months off,” Quarcelino said.
Now she gets to help others improve their game year round
using all sorts of technology: launch monitors, flight scopes
and video analysis of swings made all over the world.
“The more technology we have, the better we’re able to
help our students,” Quarcelino said.
She analyzes videos from her students in Tennessee as well
as pros from Switzerland and Mexico.
But for Quarcelino it’s not about the titles or where her
students are from, it’s about helping them become the golfer
they want to be. The hugs, high-fives and smiles at the end of
the day are a bonus.
“What I like about teaching is seeing the differences in
people, working with their differences, and making them a better
player based on their differences,” Quarcelino said. “If I can
help them get better at what they love, that would be cool.”
