Duella Farrell came to Stuart after an operation
in Massachusetts made her circulation problem
even worse. She went to see Dr. Sanguilly and he
recommended immediate surgery on her leg. She
went in on a Tuesday, stayed in the hospital until
Sunday and the following Tuesday was walking
her two dogs for the first time since June.
“I can’t say enough about them. They saved my
foot,” says Farrell. “I have my leg. I have my toes.
The circulation was shut off. I had nerve damage.
I couldn’t walk without severe pain. It went
very well.” Farrell, who says she was worried she
might lose her left foot, now walks Pugsley and
Tiki every morning and evening.
Depending on the severity of the case, some patients
can arrive for surgery in the morning and
walk out the door unassisted in the afternoon.
Among other tools in the plaque- clearing arsenal
is the CSI arterectomy device that spins at up to
120,000 rpm while sanding the inner lining of the
calcified artery. “Using lower-profile catheters,
wires and balloons we can get into smaller arteries
all way down to the foot,” says Dr. Sanguilly.
