A recent aerial photo shows additions and changes at Historic Dodgertown.
the Softball Factory brought more than two dozen young
women to Vero Beach from all parts of the country for spring
training this winter, opening their practices to the public.
It isn’t only players who come to Historic Dodgertown to
hone their skills and learn new techniques. The complex also
is home to The Umpire School — therightcall.net — created
by Minor League Baseball. Graduates of the school, which
opened in 2012, find positions in professional, collegiate and
amateur leagues.
HOLMAN PRESERVED
Not everything is new and different at Historic Dodgertown.
Holman Stadium, seating 6,500, is still a jewel in the
crown of the sports facility. The players still use the dugouts,
literally dug out of the earth next to the playing field and
unique in baseball for its roofless dugouts. The pool is there,
for use by the organizations that come to train. The four tennis
courts are now two, with the others turned into a basketball
court.
