PoP Rocks:
Heroes, Icons
And THe MundAne
March 12, – May 2, 2014
Coca Cola by Ronnie Cutrone
Pop Art emerged in the mid-1950s in Britain in the
late 1950s in the United States. Pop Art’s explosion
of vibrant color and design presented a challenge to
traditions of fine art
by including imagery
from popular culture
such as advertising,
news, comic books,
film and mundane
cultural objects. Pop
Art and minimalism
are considered to be
art movements that
precede Post- modern art. Some consider Pop Art
as the earliest example of Post-modern Art. Artists
featured in the exhibition include Ronnie Cutrone,
John CRASH Matos, Ceravolo and Shalene Valenzuela.

engineer for school programs in a jazz ensemble, Soulfege,
which is often heard at community events. Fine arts and
commercial art classes produce artists well on their way to
successful careers.
Beyond the arts, there’s industry — the golf industry.
Through a partnership with Links at Pointe West, students
in the elective golf curriculum learn to master the game, and
through dual enrollment classes at IRSC they can learn golf
course operations.
Standard core study categories — English, history, math,
science, foreign languages — are refined to allow for individual
interests. Chinese, predicted to be a benefit to business in
the 21st century, is one of the foreign languages offered. Social
studies students will study American and world history, but
they will also learn about economics, psychology and our
government, all aimed at graduating with an understanding
of how the world works.
The IRCHS mission statement gets right to the point: This
school will be a high performance organization.
