During its days as Vero Beach Sports Village, the site
was used for the training of a South Korean team, SK
Wyverns, which still makes Historic Dodgertown its
off-season home. Brady Ballard, vice president at the
complex, reports that the team brought in a Korean
chef from South Florida to prepare meals for the players.
The team makes it to the championship series in
Korea every year and has won the title several times.
Americans Luke Scott, Jo-Jo Reyes and Ross Wolf have
signed with the Wyverns team.
HISTORIC TRIBUTE
History will be in evidence April 15, when Jackie
Robinson Day is celebrated at Historic Dodgertown’s
Holman Stadium with a Florida State League regularseason
game between the Brevard County Manatees
and the Lakeland Flying Tigers. Tickets are $5 and
net proceeds will benefit the United Way of Indian
River County.
Photographs of Robinson and other Dodger greats
line the walls in the buildings on the 80-acre complex.
Sandy Koufax, Pee Wee Reese, Roy Campanella, Gil
Hodges, Walt Alston, Don Newcombe, Tommy LaSorda
and so many others who walked those halls and prepared
for the season ahead are all there. Fans can take
a walk down memory lane by visiting www.historicdodgertown.
