saving on the use of paper when students hand
in assignments.
Students at St. Edwards buy their own laptops
or pads, but the school has a financial aid program
for those who can’t afford such devices and
a loan program, so students can continue using
equipment if and until their devices are repaired.
Filters are used within the school for online
activities. The students are also taught safety
and digital citizenship, an important part of
being tech savvy.
The wireless environment at The Pine School
in Stuart and Hobe Sound includes laptops
and state-of-the-art tools for classroom initiatives
among some 400 students. Students use
Google apps to access information such as shared
calendars, documents, collaborative tools and
emails. The partnership helps centralize learning
needs with the instant involvement of teachers
and students.
The school has a management system for
parents and students to see grades, lesson plans,
homework and instruction manuals. The Pine
School includes pre-K to 12th grade levels with
the lower school located in Stuart and middle to
upper schools in Hobe Sound. For all students,
cyber safety remains a concern as with other
schools. Students, teachers and parents can find
the latest information about the Internet for positive
online experiences.
