Supporters of the Indiantown Education Coalition enjoyed
a wonderful evening at the ninth edition of a Groovy Nite at
the Races, featuring entertainment by Don Ciccone and the
Critters. This annual event is the primary fund-raiser which
supports the IEC’s scholarship fund.
to Rebuild PlaygRound
The Rotary Cub of Fort Pierce has launched
$200,000 campaign to rebuild a children’s
playground at the intersection of Virginia
Avenue and 23rd Street.
The campaign was begun Jan. 10 and already more
than $102,350 has been raised. The playground
was originally built in 1993 but needs to be replaced
because of safety concerns from two decades of use.
Rotary member Bruce Abernethy Jr., who assisted in the fund-raising efforts
to build the original playground, reinvigorated efforts to help provide funding for
the new playground. A steering committee of Rotary members was subsequently
created, with Joey Trefelner as general coordinator.
The club solicited input from children during a “Design Day’’ Nov. 8 in which
local school children submitted suggestions for the play area. The playground
design company Leathers & Associates is producing a professional design
based on the suggestions.
The old playground will be razed later this year with the new playground
expected to be built shortly thereafter.
Corporate sponsorships and naming opportunities are available for donors
would like their names memorialized on a plaque at the playground site.
Donations can be made online at www.KidsCrossingPlayground.com or
by mailing a check payable to Kids Crossing, Inc. to 130 South Indian River
Drive, Suite #201, Fort Pierce 34950. Kids’ Crossing Playground is a 501(c)(3)
organization and contributions are tax-deductible.
