The Fairgrounds Festival of Lights is a new seasonal actiity at the St. Lucie County Fairgrounds on West Midway Road from Thursday, Nov. 28. to Sunday, Nov. 29. Enjoy a mile-long drive-through light display ending at Santa’s Village where people can get out and visit the shop. Santa is there on weekends. See real reindeer, ride on a real camel, enjoy the petting zoo and a live animal nativity. There will be sweets, treats, food and many different activities. This young bald eagle sits on a higher limb watching over young eaglets. When this eagle matures, its head will turn white. Soon the mother and father will bring fish to the nest to feed the little eaglets.

The long-time favorite Best of the Best show at A. E. Backus Museum & Gallery features artists competing in four different areas including watercolor, varied techniques, three-dimensional, oil and acrylic paintings. Captain’s Corner: Derek Jeter’s Journey from Kalamazoo to the Elliott is open through December in the Baseball Gallery at the Elliott Museum in Stuart, giving visitors an up-close glimpse into the life and career of modern-day baseball legend Derek Jeter. The collection comes from Patrick Armstrong and son, Brian Armstrong, and includes signed balls, bats, jerseys, photos, helmets, an original scouting report, career stats and so much more. There’s even a full-size replica of Jeter’s locker that makes a good photo spot. ELLIOTT MUSEUM

Oxbow Eco-Center Enjoy live music, a silent auction and eco-art made from repurposing materials that otherwise would be thrown out during the St. Lucie Earth Day Festival Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oxbow Eco-Center on St. James Drive. The Festival highlights unique eco-art, sustainable living ideas and community resources. More than 70 local organizations and businesses will be showcased and share hands-on activities throughout the gardens and trails of the preserve. Shiploads of seafood and pirate activities can be found at the Fort Pierce Seafood and Pirate Fest on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park and Riverwalk Center. With mermaids and pirates, cannons and swords, kids’ fun zones, pet friendly, and a wide array of vendors and shops to explore.
