Outdoor Expansion
The city’s Parks and Recreation Department is developing the often requested pickleball courts, bike trails, walking paths, community and neighborhood parks, and large regional parks for residents eager to spend more time outdoors.

Centennial salute
In 1904, Fort Pierce had 1,000 citizens, a newspaper, hotels, a cattle company, five boarding houses, two boat building companies and doctors, but no police department.
In the 100 years of Lincoln Park Academy, one of the milestone events was the move in 1953 to its location on Avenue I and North 17th Street. JASON HOOK
The Best of the Best
By nearly any objective measure, Lincoln Park Academy is one of the best high schools in St. Lucie County and the state of Florida.
The Rev. Dr. Alvin E. Miller Sr. was an All-Ohio Valley Conference running back for Eastern Kentucky University and ran for more than 1,000 yards in the 1979 season and postseason. A delinquent middle school student in Fort Pierce, he became a successful high school graduate and collegiate scholar through the relentless efforts of his seventh grade teacher, Rita Marie Johnson. Life lessons
In second grade, Alvin Miller missed more than 90 straight days of school. He simply went AWOL when he realized he was out of his depth.
The Restoring the Village Initiative erected stone markers on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in 2014, marking the north and south boundaries of Fort Pierce’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. Pronouncing the area as the home of The Original Highwaymen, a noted group of black landscape artists, and the final home of famed writer Zora Neale Hurston adds a sense of pride in the neighborhood. Rebirth of a neighborhood
Larry Lee Jr. and Alvin Miller grew up in the Lincoln Park area in the 1960s and ’70s. They remember their neighborhood fondly as a place where everyone knew and looked out for each other.
Calvin Heathman, the first resident of the Ardie R. Copas State Veterans' Nursing Home in Port St. Lucie, enters the facility with his daughter, Rhonda Blakey and her husband, Mark. They all believe it was the right time for him to move to the nursing facility. Heathman says the staff provides him with excellent care. ANTHONY INSWASTY
