Skate City glides back to life

The moment giant scissors snipped and the grand opening ribbon dropped, roller skaters flew onto the smooth concrete surface of Port St. Lucie’s brand new Skate City. The long-awaited opening in Whispering Pines Park near Treasure Coast High School happened Jan. 29.

How did pickleball start? During the summer of 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington, three fathers, faced with bored children, came up with a new game. Using ping-pong paddles and a wiffleball, they lowered a badminton net and began experimenting.
