and other objects. Likewise, Annular Eclipse VII is a monumental

The two selections in 2014 were Bar Decoration I, oil on canvas
by Jack Tworkov, whose Greenwich Village studio from
1948 to 1953 adjoined that of abstract impressionist Willem de
Kooning; and Reddy in the Cellar, oil on canvas by John Sloan,
one of the Ashcan School painters. His paintings are in major
museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the
National Gallery, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the
Whitney Museum of American Art.
Museum members at the Chairman’s Club level or above
are welcome to join the Athena Society, an affiliate membership.
Carol Coxhead, chairwoman of the Athena Society
committee, says, “Athena is a wonderful win/win for all!
Members enjoy being together in a social setting learning
about art, and the museum’s permanent collection is enriched
and expanded each year by our selections. We have
fun and the museum wins!”
