Restaurants come and go, just like the
tides. And the good ones stay. Just like
The Tides.
For almost 15 years, this little treasure
on the Treasure Coast has been serving up consistently
great food, with the emphasis on fresh seafood.
The only disappointment about The Tides,
located in a charming converted house on Cardinal
Drive one block from Vero Beach’s oceanfront,
is that it is not on the water.
Like the ocean tides, this popular restaurant
is predictable. I have been there in the heat of
summer, when much of Vero’s population has
flown to cooler climes, and sat at an outside table
on the patio. I have been there in the prime of the
season, when reservations are hard to get, and
the little three-room house’s tables are filled with
winter residents.
And it is always the same. Excellent.
Chef and owner Leanne Kelleher calls her food
“distinctively Floridian,” but the menu could
really be called the best of the Treasure Coast with
a nod to the chef’s New England roots. Since she
opened The Tides as the first female chef/owner
in the area, she has made an effort to use local,
organically grown vegetables and fresh seafood
from area waters.
Do not expect, however, cutting edge cuisine.
And that’s what I like about it. Who doesn’t like
perfectly whipped potatoes and nicely cooked
