Visitors to St. Lucie County, along with other area counties, were slow to enjoy activities at the beginning of the season because of rainy and cooler weather here, but they are starting to pick up as the season moves on, according to tourism officials. The fountain at Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens greets visitors to this green oasis in the heart of Port St. Lucie. Various paved paths lead to the numerous gardens, including the butterfly garden, rose garden and the orchid house. Avast ye! Shiploads of seafood and pirate activities can be found at the Fort Pierce Seafood and Pirate Fest on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park and Riverwalk Center. With mermaids and pirates, cannons and swords, kids’ fun zones, pet friendly, and a wide array of vendors and shops to explore. There will be live music and donations of canned goods for the Treasure Coast Food Bank would be appreciated. Free parking is available at the city parking garage.
