bowling alley.” Bob and fellow Jaycees worked on getting more amenities
to the city. The Prima Vista area became the hub of the community where
there was a public marina and a swimming pool. “It was the main place to
go,” says Butch. “We took the kids there for all kinds of activities.”
Still, the town was small. “I remember one Christmas when we went to
cut down our own Christmas tree,” says Kathy. “There was no Home Depot
or any other place to get a tree. You were likely to step on a rattlesnake
or scare off a deer.”
The family grew with a third child, Becky, in 1974. Butch became heavily
involved in the PTA. She became its first president and she and her volunteers
put in 6,900 hours of work the first year. Butch also helped organize
the Junior Women’s Club special events like the Easter Egg Hunt and
Breakfast with Santa. “I knew that things were beginning to happen in our

lived in Port St. Lucie.
