When the call comes in that
a trauma patient is on the
way, at least 20 team members
are ready for those doors
to swing open and a patient
to be rolled into the operating
room next to the entrance.
“We never know what is
coming through the door,
and if the patient is at death’s
door,” says Sharot. “It’s
humbling to see the mass
numbers of people it takes to
do this.”
Vital to the trauma system
are the paramedics who
know that time is not on their
side as they race to stabilize
patients and transport them
to Lawnwood.
“For EMS the platinum
period is the first 10 minutes
after the accident,” says Matt
