 The new-look master bedroom entered the light with a complete revamp using streamlined draperies, uniform color scheme, and chic animal print accents.

 Appliances, gutters, hurricane shutters, plumbing  
 fixtures and other items went home with the neighbors  
 and the house came down. The pool was dug up and the  
 property leveled in preparation for the new house. 
 Being in the construction business in Virginia his entire  
 career Alvin’s retired at 82 facilitated a process that others  
 may find daunting. They were also fortunate to have  
 a son who’s an architect. They consulted local Florida authorities  
 on state building code requirements and worked  
 on design ideas with their son; and had the home built  
 within nine months. 
 The original interior décor, according to Sam Hall,  
 seemed dated.  
 “When we first built the house, we did dark furniture,  
 heavy stuff, beautiful but in a 2007 style,” she says. 
  There were touches such as swag and jabot fashion  
 draperies that governed every room. By the time 2020  
 rolled around, they were Florida residents and spending  
 more time here, and were craving a new look.  
 UPDATING THE DECOR 
 The mission was to revamp the home in a more agile  
 and fresh style. That’s when Davant and Priscilla Hyatt  
 Councill, lead designer at Davant’s Stuart operation, went  
 to work.

 Before the renovations, the heavy drapery presentation in the master bedroom  
 covered the arches at the tops of the windows, limiting the amount of  
 sunlight and obscuring the beautiful view of the golf course beyond.
