The living room was dominated before the makeover by dark okra walls
and heavy drapes. Designers Priscilla Hyatt Councill and Dianne Davant
went for a less is more approach in restyling this room.
had settled. They had visited frequently, playing golf and
enjoying the gracious Florida winters. They’d previously
owned homes in Martin County and traditionally spent
several weeks in Florida during a season.
But Alvin Hall is a builder, a skill and trade that would
play a major role in the evolution of this particular house
in Palm City. While visiting Evergreen Club, the Halls
would keep an eye on a home at the end of a cul-de-sac
 overlooking the seventh fairway.
“I told my friends,” Alvin Hall says, “‘if that house ever
goes on the market, I’m going to buy it.’”
 STARTING FROM SCRATCH
Eventually they did just that. However, with an extremely
 nontraditional twist.
The existing home of approximately 4,000 square feet
was not the style the couple envisioned, so one December
evening the Halls invited their neighbors for an empty
 house party.
They hired a caterer, brought in tables and chairs to the
otherwise empty home, and during dinner, Alvin Hall
stood up and announced, “You’ve got two weeks until
January 3rd, you can take anything you want, air conditioner,
  windows, flooring, doors. There’s a sign-up sheet
on the counter. But after January 3rd, that’s it, because it’s
going to be torn down.” >>

The living room became a lighter and more buoyant space with the use of subtle yet vivid jewel tones, favored by the homeowner.
