Inn love

Captivated couple returns Cypress Lodge to its historic glory
BY ELLEN GILLETTE

Some people see an old building in disrepair and complain about the eyesore. And then there are people like Jim and Deborah Ann Stroscheim — who fall in love.
The couple met in 2008 and married six months later. “It was love at first sight,” Deborah said. Two years ago, while celebrating their 15th anniversary, they closed on a house they had fallen in love with just as quickly: Cypress Lodge.
Built in 1936, Cypress Lodge is a three-story country inn on the southwest edge of Martin County. After the Port Mayaca Post Office closed in 1958, the hotel’s address changed to Canal Point — a remote location, no matter what you call it.
