Peek beneath the scales with Lynne Parenti, PhD, to explore the intricate bony skeletons of fish, stingrays, eels and seahorses through dramatic, black-and-white x-rays. With details reminiscent of fine engraving, discover the secrets of fish evolution, anatomy and the impact of environmental changes on aquatic species.
Lynne Parenti has been a Curator of Fishes and Research Scientist at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, since 1990. With NMNH photographer and radiographer Sandra Raredon, she chose the images and wrote the text for an exhibit “X-Ray Vision: Fish Inside Out,” comprising 40 fish radiographs and photographs. It emphasizes the beauty and diversity of the fish skeleton and the importance of natural history collections.
