Hutchinson Island
The barrier island off the mainland of Fort Pierce and Port
St. Lucie is an outdoor and beach lover’s paradise stretching
21-miles long with a laid-back, slower-paced vibe.
Three of the St. Lucie’s most popular attractions are located
on this beautiful stretch of coastline – the National Navy SEAL
Museum, Fort Pierce Inlet State Park and Jetty Park.
The SEAL Museum is the only museum in the world
dedicated to the history of these elite warriors and
their predecessors. Fort Pierce Inlet State Park and
many other affiliated parks feature stunning beaches
and outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and
birdwatching. Water lovers will enjoy boating,
kayaking, surfing, snorkeling, sailing and stand up
paddle boarding. Jetty Park, located on the Fort
Pierce Inlet is a must-see offering a pathway to walk
and fish from, or take great photos — especially at
sunrise. Watch the boats enter and leave the inlet
and observe fishermen cleaning their catches while hungry
pelicans gather ‘round for tidbits. Lucky visitors may witness
manatees swimming by under the clear water and surface
for a breath of air. Hutchinson Island’s relatively undeveloped
coastline provides dozens of public and free access points on
the ocean side and access points to pristine nature preserves
on the lagoon side with kayak launches, trails, and observation
decks. Bikers and cyclists will love the picturesque Highway
AIA in a dedicated bike lane. At night, the island lights up with
several waterfront eateries and bars offering live music. An array
of quaint waterfront hotels and charming vacation rentals are
sprinkled throughout the island.
