The Laura [Riding] Jackson Foundation honors and helps preserve the legacy of a poet, novelist, critic and essayist by nurturing writers of all ages in Indian River County.

The foundation, which has been a part of the community for 29 years, schedules lots of inspiring events, including the annual Poetry and Barbeque, a poetry reading held in honor of National Poetry Month to engage the community in the art of writing. It offers writing workshops for all ages where experts help participants develop their skills. There are writing groups where budding and experienced writers of all genres can come together for feedback and support. This year, the foundation paired with the School District of Indian River County to make sure all students had access to college essay workshops.
