The Treasure Coast has long needed a business that would help animals recover or improve from joint pain, injury and other issues that affect quality of life.
That’s the goal of the new Treasure Coast Animal Rehabilitation and Fitness Center in Vero Beach.
Adam Lewis and veterinarian Amber Callaway Lewis opened their specialty practice to help pets with orthopedic rehabilitation, pain management, nutritional needs, cognitive screenings, weight loss programs and hospice and end-of-life care.
They also specialize in fitting for supportive orthopedic braces and castings for custom braces and will recommend the best supportive device. They can help manage injuries including knee, wrist, ankle, hip and back.
Dr. Amber, as she’s known, works with dogs on cold laser therapy, underwater treadmills, fitness exercise, special diets and much more.
She was in practice for several years when she realized that there was a need for a more comprehensive way of managing pain in her patients. Patients with aching joints and painful hips, for instance, could benefit from exercise, while obese patients could live longer with fewer problems if they were on a tasty but nutritious diet designed for their needs.
She became a certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist and then went on to join several organizations that would help her reach her goals.
The official grand opening is Jan. 25.
