A great place to live
A survey commissioned by the city of Port St. Lucie last year found that a majority of
residents rank the city as excellent or good in categories including overall image,
quality of life and appearance, safety and place to live, retire and raise children.
The 2019 National Citizen Survey conducted by the National Research Center also
showed that the number of people ranking Port St. Lucie’s quality of life as excellent or
good — 78 percent — increased by 26 percent since 2009. The number of people ranking
Port St. Lucie as an excellent or good place to retire also went up — by 17 percent from 2009.
As Port St. Lucie Mayor Greg Oravec said after the results were released, “The data
shows that we are moving in the right direction and putting more and more distance between
ourselves and the dark days of the Great Recession.’’
The survey reveals the state of residents’ well-being as a snapshot in time. And like the
survey, we like to think that each issue of this magazine is also a snapshot taken at the time
it is published.
That snapshot is impressive. As we put this issue together, U.S. News and World Report
magazine recognized the city as the third best place to retire, MoneyGeek, a personal financial
education and advice company, ranked PSL as the No. 1 largest safest city in Florida,
and the city was ranked 44th out of 380 by LendEdu as likely to see an economic boom in
the next decade. Page 6

Our goal with each issue of Port St. Lucie Magazine is to reflect life in the city. What a
wonderful reflection it is.
